The Rollins Family: At-home Lifestyle Session

November 7, 2013 •

Heidi is the mom of the Rollins family, a crafty decorating extraordinaire. Walking from room to room I was floored–no detail is left unattended, and every element is meaningful and beautiful. Saying she’s creative just doesn’t cut it–you have to see the photographs. She and Paul adopted Quincy from Africa, and seeing their tenderness in caring for him is inspiring. They do the things he loves, from playing with flags to petting the dogs to spinning, spinning, spinning. The relationship between Madison and Quincy is a witness to the strength of family–it’s obvious Q is meant for this family, regardless of the circumstances.

I struggle to describe the experiences I have with families in their homes, because it’s so big and so beautiful, but I don’t want to be priggish and grandiose. I just always feel honored that people want to see themselves through these authentic photographs, in the middle of the lovingly crafted Harry Potter rooms and the self-awareness that it’s not finished, not perfect. But it’s worthy.

Thank you, Paul, Heidi, Madison and Quincy for letting me into your incredible space full of so much heart and joy.

The Packards: At-home family session

October 22, 2013 •

The Packards and I go way back–I used to work with Anna in college while she was getting her PhD. She has an incredible spirit–so kind, and open. It was actually through a conversation with her that I first started seeing working moms differently, and began to see it as a viable option for me. She invited me to photograph her family in the earliest days of my business, and I was absolutely honored to go back to their home and document their family again.

They recently welcomed a darling baby girl to their family, and I loved being in on her sweetness and little Hailee’s spunk. Anna and Chad lost their baby Charlie to SIDS, and Anna told me the most strengthening thing–that baby Cami looks at the photos of Charlie on the wall and smiles, because she knows him. It felt so right to be there photographing them with those pictures hanging on the wall, remembering that little boy through our session.

Thank you, Anna, Chad, Hailee and Cami, for letting me photograph the hugeness of the love in your home.

Anna and Chad have a glorious park right by their house, so we finished out the session there–where they already have so many great memories and good times.

Vienna + The Homemade Bow

September 25, 2013 •

YES. It’s true. I sewed a headband for Miss V. and I feel disproportionately proud of it, hence a lotta pictures. Shout out to Grammy who helped hand-hold me through the process and calm my hyperventilating when the sewing machine came out.

If you wanna know, I used this jersey knit baby headband tutorial. Super easy, even for non-crafty folk like me.

I am in love with this baby. She is my favorite.

The Cousins Smother Vienna with Love

July 23, 2013 •

Vienna met her cousins for the first time and whoa, it was love at first sight for all involved. Daylynn and Addison were SO.cute. playing with her and stroking her hair and wanting to hold her. Cute little Addi was so excited she could hardly contain herself and pranced around the room. I just can’t even talk about how thankful I am that V has such loving, wonderful cousins to play with. (And two more coming soon! Yipeee!)

I understand their need to smother our little babe with love. I do it er’yday.

Molly + Reese: Lifestyle Mother Daughter Photos

April 17, 2013 •

It is always an honor to be chosen to photograph other photographers, especially when said other photographer is as  supertalented as Molly.

Molly wanted to give some photos of her and her daughter to her husband, so we captured the two of them playing, snuggling, eating fruit snacks, and being together. I cannot even say how baby hungry this session makes me–how adorable is Reese, and Molly? Stunner. I just might have to look through these photos every morning in hopes that their cuteness will put me into labor… =)

You can view all the photos from this mother-daughter duo and order prints here.

The Davis Family: Lifestyle Newborn Session

April 5, 2013 •

Merissa and Jason are wonderful–it was so beautiful to be in their home with the newness of little Otto and capture the wonder of this special time for the two of them. Merissa is a talented singer songwriter and I could tell immediately from their home that we are kindred spirits–books everywhere, handmade quilts, simple beauty. It’s obvious how much they love their little one, and baby Otto is one lucky boy to have

such fabulous parents! Merissa and Jason, thank you for letting me in on this beautiful stage of your family. You three are perfect. You can see all the photos from our session and order prints HERE. Brooke Schultz is a Utah-based photographer who captures families in their homes, in the places they know and love best. She finds inexplicable beauty in authenticity and would lovelove to photograph the incredibleness that is your family, whether your babies are newly born or growin’ babies of their own. See the details here.

The Jensens: At-Home Newborn Family Session

March 8, 2013 •

Elli and Steven welcomed sweet baby Macie just a month ago into their adorable little family. We captured her in the places she loves best: in mom and dad’s arms in the coziness of their home. We ditched random baskets, furry headdresses and patterned backdrops in favor of the real, deep, overflowing love of this beautiful family.

If you, too, are confused by fancy props and funny hats, and just want to wrap your little one in her favorite blanket and snuggle her in your own home for your photos, gimme a jingle–we’ll make magic. (P.S. I don’t care if you have a fancy house or a tiny apartment–these photos were done in a basement apartment, so you have no excuse. If you’ve got one window, you’re in.)

Thank you so much, Elli and Steven, for letting me into your home and allowing me to be part of the newness and wonder of this time in your family’s life. You are incredible parents and Macie is lucky to be swaddled in such great love.

Mini sessions: just 2 spots left, loves! Read the details here and reserve your spot here.

The Zippros: Lifestyle Newborn Session at Home

February 19, 2013 •

Jason and Sharolee are great parents precisely because they are great people. Maybe that seems lame, but I really believe it. I’m reminding myself of it, too, when I look around ten times a day and wonder, “how in the world am I going to raise another human?” I’ll keep being me. And this mothering thing will come.

Baby Aceton is the cutest, sweetest, most well-behaved little newborn on this earth probably. He was so angelic for our session, peacefully sleeping away

and then waking up happy. (Do any other newborns do this? I’ve always thought that they instantly start crying the moment they wake up.)

Jason and Sharolee, thank you so much for letting me into your home to document such a sweet, new time in your lives with your darling little man.

Interested in a snuggly, warm, cozy-and-oozing-with-joy-and-authenticity lifestyle family session of your own?
