Kendra: Black + White

April 4, 2012 •

I love shooting personal work–it’s such a gorgeous opportunity for me to hone my art, refine my vision and experiment. While I’ve been editing these photos, I’ve just felt there was too much here to share in one post; too much to be said with these frames. I would hate for these gems to be scrolled through mindlessly–a sad downfall of the masses of information and photos we consume all the time.

So, here’s me, scaling back in hopes you’ll digest these images for what they are: a representation of beauty, femininity, and life force–without airbrushing. With soul.

Meet Kendra. She has gorgeous hair and a beautiful soul.

More from this project to come, soon, my lovelies.

And oh? You want in on projects like this in the coming months? I’m cooking up some friggin’ awesome things, and I want you.

Happy Weekend!

March 30, 2012 •

Can’t wait to show you more of this gorgeous lady. Breathtaking, isn’t she? No airbrushing required. Happy weekend! Brooke Schultz is a Utah wedding and lifestyle photographer who loves capturing real relationships and raw emotions. She feels at home in dingy bookstores, can’t bring herself to follow a recipe, and never wears socks. She wants to follow your loveliness

on Pinterest. And she likes referring to herself in third person cause she’s cool like that.

Michonn + Matt: Orem Engagement

March 28, 2012 •

Bring on the wind, rain,

tornadoes…..Michonn and Matt are fabulous and in love through anything. Okay, so there was no tornado. But it felt like it. And oh, how I love wind in photos (although tornado-wind was a first, and not always magical). Michonn and Matt are so comfortable with each other–they can get each other laughing like nobody’s business. Only this much love could create these photos on such an otherwise miserable day. Another thing I love about Michonn and Matt? They’re the epitome of class. Classy folks photograph so incredibly well. Want to know something else I love about these two? They are laid back and invested, all at the same time. Another thing? I’m photographing their wedding in May, and I. cannot. wait! Engaged and planning a fabulous wedding of your own? Brooke Schultz is a wedding photographer and that means she photographs such lovely things as people being in love before, during, and after their weddings. She wants to photograph you. Give her a little email jingle to talk about it.

Michelle: Utah Lake Bridals

March 23, 2012 •

Two days before the wedding, four giddy women, a jeep, and one great dress.

Also, bullets.

As in, bullets fired from guns.

We drove to the secret location and I was more than a little impressed by Kat’s driving-over-massive-rocks-straight-uphill skills. Then I’m oohing and ahhing and drooling over Michelle’s camera working skills, because she is so vivacious and full of love. We were a little less full of love when we heard a round of shots not just in the distance, but whizzing past us. We high tailed it out of there, and luckily Michelle is amazing, along with Kat (Meesh’s dear friend and our resident stylist for the session), and Meesh’s mom, Karen, and we managed to snag some fabulous photos and give those dudes a piece of our minds. Photo shoot, right? Okay. Sorry. No more puns, promise.

Onto the photos: meet Michelle, the most kind, open-hearted, glamorous, gorgeous bride. It was truly a pleasure to witness so much beauty.

Dress: Gowns By Pamela

Hair and Makeup: Allana of the Brow Bar (Um. she is amazing. More about her to come when I share Michelle and Mark’s wedding–but. You have to go see her. She will make you look like a queen.)

……………………

Planning a stunning, love-filled wedding and you’re in need of stunning photos to match? You’re dreaming of photographs that are unique and timeless? Fresh, but won’t be eyeroll-inducing when you show them to your friends in six months? And you want to actually like your photographer? You’re not crazy. I just might be your lady. Drop me a line, lovely, and we’ll find out.

We Belong Together

March 21, 2012 •

We belong together if you have embraced being wild.

We belong together if you’ve got soul.

We belong together if you are thinking, right now, is she really referencing that totally lame Mariah Carey song by the same name? (And I am not. Although we all have to have a moment of silence for the incredible voice that is that woman’s, and shed a tear over all the wonderful music she didn’t make with it.)

We belong together if you’ve ever dreamt of running away into the forest to find yourself,

or taking a vacation by yourself to soul-search.

We belong together if you think the ocean is magical,

dance in front of the bathroom mirror to Florence and the Machine, sing along to Duffy, kind of worship Coeur de Pirate, love Bon Iver,

believe in documenting and preserving your life on not an iPhone,

are haunted by unique art, even if you’re not sure if you hate it or adore it

love the unexpected turns your life takes–

surprises, you love them.

You hate the word hubby. Okay, I can accept that it might just be me that hates that word. Also, chevron. Is that okay? Can I say I hate chevron?

We belong together if creativity is an essential part of you–you’re an artist of sorts,

a musician, food stylist, writer, or general free spirit extraordinaire.

You live life authentically, and you keep it real above all else.

You, you’re unique. You have a wild soul and hair to match.

I want to photograph you.

Wanna?

Michelle + Mark: Wedding Preview

So much love at this wedding–Michelle and Mark were a dream to photograph because they were just enjoying the best day of their lives, and I clicked away.

More of this beauty to come!

The Crazy Side

March 17, 2012 •

This is my mom.

Mostly she is even-keeled and down to earth

But sometimes she gets crazy and whips out her wicked dance moves for the camera.

I love this side of people.

If you, too, love your crazy side, I want to photograph you. I’m putting together my personal projects for this summer, and I’d love to have you and your adventurous soul model for me–you know, if you wanna.

P.S. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Unboring Birthday Cake

March 14, 2012 •

We’re all about non-traditional birthday cakes at my house. Because why, why should you be limited to boring cake when you can have chocolate pie, or your homemade cake decorated with a bellybutton? (This is real. Heaven only knows all the incredible things we kids dreamed up to have on our cakes.)

This birthday, my dad ordered chocolate pie. And my, it was deeelish. One slice could last you an hour, savoring all that chocolatey goodness.

Hope your week is going fabulous and you find a reason to put chocolate shavings on something. =)

………………………….

Brooke Schultz loves unboring birthday cake and unboring weddings overflowing with love. If you find yourself the star of such a wedding, she just might be the perfect photographer for you. Drop her a line to see if she is right for you. (Err…that makes me sound like a prescription pill. No free samples, peeps.)

A Pair of Earrings

March 13, 2012 •

She wasn’t there. I mean, of course she wasn’t. I sang at her funeral just over a year ago. I sat in the plastic padded chairs and watched my aunts, wearing pink and roses in her honor, hug and smile and drop tears down each other’s cheeks.

Of course she couldn’t come to my recital.

She loved costume jewelry and real jewelry and wearing makeup. The highest of compliments–every time I’d see her, she’d say, “You’re so beautiful!” and press her red lips to my cheek with a hearty “muah!”

I glittered onstage and sang Debussy, one of her favorites. In one breath, I held her close and let her go. That’s what love is, you know.

A Perfectly Lazy Saturday Morning

March 6, 2012 •

The perfect Saturday morning: banana chocolate chip waffles and flowers from Jared. I’ve forgotten how good it feels to be lazy on a Saturday morning–simply delightful, and far underrated.

Hope your lovely self has had a chance to be lazy and relax lately. It’s getting to be a lost art. =)
