Maddie + Jason: Windansea Beach Bridals

September 20, 2012 •

Maddie and Jason are two amazingly sweet people who were married in San Diego among an incredible group of friends and family. We got together for their bridal session the night before in La Jolla, and oh my. It was a thrill to be there for all the fun they have with each other, with a wonderful love to back it up. (Special thanks to my veil and dress stylists of the night! You ladies were magnificent!)

They love each other, I love them, and we all love beaches. That’s like a triple win, peeps.

Stay tuned for their wedding!

Maddie, you are a beautiful soul. You just radiate.

Bridal sessions=the most perfect time for a First Look with your man. It’s magical, folks.

And some film for good measure.

If your big day is coming up and you’re in need of the most soulful, authentic, heartfelt photos to remember the day by, I just might be your lady. Let’s talk about it, lovely!

Personal Work: On The Homefront

September 11, 2012 •

This project was born of my morning runs around my neighborhood in Provo, Utah. I’d slow down to look at the houses, so different in time period and color and shape and size and I loved them.

Photographing the beauty in my own backyard is eye-opening and leaves me amazed at the variety of wonder in the world.

All: Canonet QL 17, Ektar 100. That’s film, peeps. I love it more every day.

Your challenge: get out and document your beautiful corner of the planet.

Jessica + Miles: Blissful American Fork Wedding

August 27, 2012 •

There’s just no other way to describe the day: blissful. Jessica and Miles were such bundles of overflowing joy–their happiness is contagious, to say the least. Plus they are one of the most gracious couples I’ve ever met–somehow so simultaneously wrapped up in each other and so present with the people around them.

Jessica’s mom said it best at the luncheon: that Miles is kind and thoughtful, with a heart of gold, and that Jessica is his match in every way.

Thank you, Jessica and Miles, for letting me be part of your wedding day and your love story. I wish you so many happy years to come!

Ashley and Michael are a perfect fit–you can tell they are best friends. Their wedding day was full of smiles and the people they love, rolling with the punches and enjoying the real moments that make these sometimes crazy days so very special. These two are so much fun–we could have been doing anything anywhere and they would have made it a party. Their wedding was the perfect mix of sentimental and a laid-back good time for everyone.

Ashley and Michael, you are such a wonderful pair–it was so much fun to be part of your wedding! I wish you so much love in the years that lie ahead.

Lora

August 21, 2012 •

Lora is a beautiful photographer friend of mine over at Lora Grady Photography. We got together for a little film sesh, where we gabbed about all the hard and wonderful and glorious ins and outs of film shooting and squealed about photo nerdy stuff.

Of course we had to shoot some digital too–I think I’ll always use both; the bottom line is: whatever you have, get out and shoot with it.

Meet Lora. She is one of the nicest, sweetest, most generous women I’ve ever met–for real.

Probably my favorite from the day:

And now, the FILM.

This is the magic, the absolute magic of film for me: one minute, you get shots like these,

And the next minute, you get this. The unpredictability is so thrilling to me.

Canonet QL 17, Fuji 400H.

Annie + Ashton: Maternity Session

August 16, 2012 •

Annie and Ashton are so sweet and kind, and really, really good looking on top of it. You’ll see in just a sec. They’re also my kindred spirits: the artistic type, who love unique things. They’re expecting a sweet little baby girl in a few weeks, and we decided to document the excitement, anticipation, and love of this time in their lives. There are so many feelings when expecting a baby–I just love telling the story, because it’s beautifully different for each family.

Annie and Ashton, you will be incredible parents to little Scout. She will be amazing! Congratulations.

Expecting a baby of your own? Remember the feeling forever and give your little one precious photos to look back on. Brooke Schultz tells these wonderful stories of happy families in love. Chat about your maternity session with her.

P.S. Not sure if you want to do maternity photos, or if Brooke Schultz is right for you? You can still contact her. She will help you decide. Because she is nice and cares about your experience in getting the best photos for your life and style and soul, not just taking you moneys.

Kat + Micah: Intimate Sundance Wedding

August 15, 2012 •

Kat and Micah are a perfect pair–they are so comfortable with each other, and their wedding weekend was full of quiet, deep love born of eight years of history together. It was also full of rain, in July, mind you–but they are so wonderful under stress, they didn’t let it stop them from enjoying the ultimate celebration of their love and commitment to each other. They were married at the Manti LDS temple and continued the fun the next day at a cabin near Sundance in Provo Canyon–a gorgeous, secluded, all-around perfect spot for them.

Kat and Micah created so many beautiful moments at their wedding, from their photo booth to exchanging gifts to providing bubbles to keep the kids entertained–a great reflection of what a thoughtful couple they are (and a photographer’s dream!).

Kat and Micah, I can’t even tell you how wonderful it was being part of your wedding–you are such kind, generous people with hearts of gold. It was a joy.

Kat gave Micah the sweetest gift, and it was a great time to photograph the two of them before the reception.

My favorite frame of the day:

Congratulations, Kat and Micah! I hope Mexico was amazing =)

Time After Time

August 14, 2012 •

Two years ago today we sealed the deal, official and forever and ever amen.

Two years ago today we danced for the first time as husband and wife under lights my dad lovingly strung across our backyard, hurriedly ate sushi and cookies and milk, hugged and smiled and giggled so much our cheeks ached.

It seems like we were babies then, with no idea how this whole love thing works, even though we’d already been waist deep for years.

I loved you the first time I laid eyes on you–my soul just reached to yours, without my consent–like being swept up by your toes into whirlwind tornado of rainbows and awesome, and by the time you realize you’ve left the ground you’re already too high up to go back.

And here we are, still swirling. Still waking up every single morning in each other’s arms, and I smile and blindly kiss you until you peel yourself away. Still swimming in the most amazing glittering love, seventy thousand feet deep. Not without bumps, long conversations about the things that matter most to us, tears when things were impossible to face–but there is no one on this earth or in this universe I’d rather share hard things and hilarious things and happy things with than you.

Happy anniversary, baby. Here’s to 129386690234 more.

Our song. (Not to be confused with Cyndi Lauper’s song by the same title…ughw.)

Ali + Brian: Backyard Salt Lake City Wedding

August 13, 2012 •

Ali and Brian are a wonderful pair, with fun-loving hearts, easy smiles, and a wonderful knowledge of how lucky they are to have each other. It was such a joy to photograph them, and second shooting for the lovely Paola of Spotted Photography was a blast. I love second shooting every now and again for my own development–it’s a great exercise in creativity, seeing a wedding through another photographer’s eyes, and in this case–helping Paola through the day shooting 100% film. Yep, she’s cool. And her film may or may not have been mistaken for candy 84 times. haha.

And can I even begin to say how much I love backyard receptions? Pure magic.

Ali and Brian, thank you for letting me in on a wonderful day full of lively love and awesome dancing. Special thanks to Paola for bringing me along!
