Homegrown Wedding Inspiration

September 8, 2014 •

Sharing this shoot has been a long time coming, and it’s practically killed me to sit on it this long. I’m THRILLED to have it featured on Salt Lake Park City Bride and Groom today!

The inspiration for this work was a couple getting married at home, in the most intimate of settings, with flowers and art and custom tattoos for the big day. It was a treat to use Candis + Andy’s restored home, where they were married themselves, and show off the gorgeous work they’ve done.

As always, I can’t thank those involved enough. Their talents are unspeakable, and you must check them out.

Paper goods and tattoos: Huckleberry Paper

Floral: Flower Afternoon

Hair and Makeup: Versa Artistry

Dress: Danielle’s Bridal

Location: Private Residence

Romney + Jesse: Cabin Mountain Bridals

September 5, 2014 •

Have I already told you what a kind and sweet duo Romney and Jesse are? Yes? I have to tell you again. They just shine.

We made photos at the Brighton cabin where Romney grew up vacationing, and I can’t think of anything sweeter than bringing your love to one of your favorite places for photos.

Romney and Jesse, congratulations. You are beautiful together.

Bouquet: Flower Afternoon

If you’re in love and you want to make beautiful photos, let’s chat about your wedding day.

Meisha + Sam: Bridals at Albion Basin

August 29, 2014 •

Meisha and Sam. Two complete stars. The grass was wet and they were not deterred. It was actually cold (this pregnant lady was in heaven!) and they were not deterred. We saw MOOSE and they were not deterred.

They are so full of light and love, and now that their wedding is over I’m downright sad I won’t be photographing them anymore. Well, until babies, that is! elbow, elbow. juust kidding.

If you like these photographs and you’d like to make some with the one you love best in the world, let’s chat about your wedding.

see ya summer.

August 28, 2014 •

I can’t say I’ll miss this summer allll that much–being pregnant in the heat is no joke. Yahp. Not a pretty sight.

But this little girl, in this swimsuit? Kill me dead. Reason enough to keep hot weather around.

Fall Lifestyle Family Sessions

August 25, 2014 •

Welcome to a fresh approach to lifestyle imagery for creative families who ache for authentic, beautiful photos of their family. This is not your average Christmas card shoot; there’s nothing mini about it, and cheese-saying is no longer the focus.

How it works:

Photo sessions will take place in and around your home, in your favorite places and spaces. We’ll start in your home, but your backyard and your porch and the park around the corner you go to every day are not off-limits. It’s about documenting you in your meaningful spaces–something group cheese-saying shots in the autumn leaves just can’t touch.

We’ll spend an hour and a half with your family making photos. If you have specific things you do as a family together, like cooking or reading books, we’ll document those things–but, if you just want love-soaked images full of giggles and funny faces and the beautiful mess that is your everyday life, well, that’s at the top of my list.

You’ll receive a set of completely edited, hi-resolution photos (at least 60+ images) so you can print any size, anywhere. You’ll also have an online gallery to share with family and friends for ordering crazy gorgeous professional prints with extra retouching* and mounting on sizes larger than 8×10. Prints are shipped right to your front door–Grandma will be thrilled!

*Editing services do not include body sculpting, head swapping, skin plasticization, or any other excessive retouching. You are breathtaking as you are. Deal?

At-home family sessions are for you if:

-there are at least two of you and you have a home. I don’t care if you have zero kids or seven, you are a family.

-you yearn for more photos of you with your kids, for someone to see and document all the love you shower them with every day.

-you dream of candid, raw, gorgeous moments to hang on your walls and remind you why you keep opening your heart and doing the gut-ripping soul-bursting work of being a mother, a father, a member of your family.

I’ll be honest. These sessions are NOT for:

-peeps who ‘just need one good photo’

-people who want traditional, posed, everyone-smiling-looking photos. We’ll get a few of those, but they are not the focus of our time together

-large extended families, unless grandma and grandpa have a home in Utah and want everyone to come hang out for the session. (In which case, coolest Gma and Gpa award!)

-those who are worried about what others think of them. These sessions are up close and personal, and some of your people might not get it. Your in laws might want your girls dressed in matching outfits by that great waterfall. If matchy and posed is what you’re after, this session is not for you. We’re going for the whole story of your family.

You have questions. Here are the answers.

But Brooke, my house is just not pretty enough.

If you have at least one window and a door that leads to outside, we are good to go. I know, because you’re here, that your house is full of love, and that’s all I need. I have photographed families in basement apartments and gigantic spaces–please believe me when I say it does not matter. You matter.

What about travel?

Sessions in the Salt Lake City area do not require a travel fee. Families south of Provo or north of Ogden, shoot me an email before you buy and we’ll discuss travel fees.

If you’re far away, please let’s still photograph your wonderful family. Contact me for rates.

Do I get all the photos you take?

You’ll receive every good photo, and I promise you won’t miss the ones I weed out–eye blinks, two of the same photo with little hairs in different spots…oh, let me spare you the heartache. I always err on the side of giving more photos rather than less, and you’ll have at least 60 photos from our session. The real kicker: I’ve never had a family ask for more photos.

What are hi-res files?

Hi-res files is just a nice way of saying you’ll be able to print these photos as huge as you like, anywhere you like.

When does my session happen?

Sessions are taking place September 15-20, 2014. See exact times and available dates below.

When will I receive my photos?

14 days or less after our session date, via Dropbox–so you don’t have to wait for anything in the mail!

I want to book a session but I can’t do any of these dates! What do I do?

Send me an email and we’ll see if we can make something work, mdear.

But what if my kids are just going crazy the whole time?

It’s my job to worry about your littles–I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve. 😉 It’s your job to show up full of love and with an open heart.

Alise + Nick: Big Cottonwood Canyon Bridals

August 19, 2014 •

Alise and Nick met because Nick volunteered in Alise’s 4th grade classroom. They were sly enough to keep their romance a secret from Alise’s students, the thought of which just tickled me pink.

Two of the warmest, kindest people you’ll ever meet, they happily braved dirt and bugs and all kinds of whatnot to make great photographs. (Mega cool points for washing off Alise’s dress on the front porch with a hose afterward!)

Congratulations, you two!

Susannah + Peter: Deer Valley Wedding

August 18, 2014 •

Susannah and Peter are a perfect match, and it makes sense that their wedding day would be perfect. Susannah spent the morning getting ready with her sisters, and their presence was exactly what she needed–they felt every wedding day emotion with her, and it was sisterhood and woman-power like I’ve never seen. Tight knit. Unbreakable. Peter and Susannah chose to see each other before the ceremony and ohmy I can’t recommend it to you enough. It just makes room for you to enjoy your day, your guests, and maybe even relax a little–I’d say that’s plenty reason enough to kick some tradition out of your wedding. The elated photos you’re about to see just after they were married? Not a chance on earth those could have been made if we had been rushing to do family photos. Susannah and Peter, thank you a hundred times over for making me a part of your celebration. I think the world of you both, of your families, and can’t say enough of what an incredible thing it was to photograph your wedding day. See all of the photos from Susannah + Peter’s wedding and order prints here. Venue: Montage Deer Valley, Cushing’s Cabin,

and Empire Lodge Flowers: Calie Rose If you’re in love and planning a fabulous, unique wedding, I’d love to be part of telling the story. Let’s talk details.

holy yes.

August 12, 2014 •

There’s so much coming, friends.

Yes, I’m still booking family sessions for early fall. (baby girl #2, remember?!)

Yes, I’m still whipping up a bundle of changes for everything under the Brooke Schultz Photography sun, and I still can’t wait to show you. Whowo.

And yes, I am incorporating film into my work officially. After literally years of wishing and hoping and experimenting, it’s herrrre. I haven’t a clue where this medium will take me, or what percentage of what I’ll be shooting–but do you really care? I don’t. I care about making amazing images. Sometimes film does that better, sometimes digital does it better. We’re just going to go with it.

Last but not least, yes, I just love you–my clients, followers, internet friends. Thank you for supporting my corner of the world with your eyeballs looking and your fingers writing comments and emails and your mouths in person telling me such nice nice things. Your kind words mean loads.

If you’re interested in getting your lovely self in front of my camera before this little baby lady comes in October, let’s chat.

Linsey + Joe: A Wedding in the Park

August 5, 2014 •

I don’t even know where to start sometimes. Because I could write about Linsey and Joe, their love story, how they’re both photographers so I’m honored they chose me to document their day, and how they changed their date so I could photograph them…but none of those things really get at the heart of it. The heart of such a beautiful day so carefully thought out but executed with such poise and relaxation, the time we spent getting to know each other and making art together. There’s nothing like it.

So since I can’t describe, photos. Two people who love to travel, love photos, love each other. Henna and a handmade dress, meaningful details, two beautiful dances as husband and wife, a web of wonderful friends and family. And fillllm. film. we’re having a love affair.

Linsey and Joe, thank you for entrusting me with telling the story of your day and the story of your love thus far. It will keep growing fast and long, and I can’t wait for all you are and will be together.

Brooke Schultz is a Utah based wedding photographer who documents big, big days of daring, unique couples. If you’re planning a handmade wedding ooozing with love, I’d be honored to photograph it. Let’s chat about your wedding day.
